Look after your hair this Christmas

With Christmas fast approaching, many of us will be attending all manner of events and parties. As we have fun getting all dolled up and looking our best this season, bear in mind that all these events may have negative effects on our hair. How you may ask?

In the process of trying to get your hair looking picture perfect for the season, chances are you will resort to using heat a more frequently than normal. Excessive heat use damages hair. Heat from flat irons and curling irons, and blow dryers are great for getting hair straight and perfectly styled, but they damage hair over time. Even for those who wear weaves it shortens the life span of your extensions, and the hair left out to blend with the weaves gets damaged very quickly. This is why a lot of women have very short broken hair in front.

So how can you look great this Christmas without damaging your hair or extensions?

  • If your real hair is out avoid using direct heat, roller set your hair instead. This is much less damaging option to styling your hair.
  • Always wash and condition your hair before installing a weave.
  • If you have a weave installed with your real hair left out in front to blend. Make sure your real hair left out is well conditioned and moisturized before using a flat or curling iron to style.
  • Try and wash and condition the hair you’ve left out to blend with your weave at least once a week. Hair that is well conditioned and clean will suffer less damage when during heat styling
  • Limit using heat to once a week on the your real hair left out, and always use a heat protectant before any form of heat styling.
  • You can use heat more frequently on your hair extensions, but bear in mind if you heat style it daily regularly you will shorten it’s life span by giving it split ends. Remember human hair, virgin remy or not can still get split ends. You can still protect your hair extensions by using a heat protectant on your extensions whenever you heat style.
  • Use rollers to preserve or style your hair. Rollers of various sizes can give you the same exact look as a flat iron or curling iron, it just takes a bit longer. Your hair will thank you for it.
