With Christmas fast approaching, many of us will be attending all manner of events and parties. As we have fun getting all dolled up and looking our best this season, bear in mind that all these events may have negative effects on our hair. How you may ask?
In the process of trying to get your hair looking picture perfect for the season, chances are you will resort to using heat a more frequently than normal. Excessive heat use damages hair. Heat from flat irons and curling irons, and blow dryers are great for getting hair straight and perfectly styled, but they damage hair over time. Even for those who wear weaves it shortens the life span of your extensions, and the hair left out to blend with the weaves gets damaged very quickly. This is why a lot of women have very short broken hair in front.
So how can you look great this Christmas without damaging your hair or extensions?
One of the best things about having long hair is being able to sweep it off your face and into a bun or ponytail anytime you want! Even though long, flowing locks of hair seems like it would be super low maintenance, it’s actually even more important to take really good care of it .This is because the longer your hair is – the older and drier the ends of your hair are – which means it needs some TLC to keep it looking shiny and healthy! Summertime means you should protect your skin with sunscreen but many of us don’t realize that your hair can also get damaged by the sun’s rays and also needs to be protected! Your hair can get sunburn too! And if you colour your long hair – the sun can also do a number on fading. And don’t forget to protect your hair from salt water and chlorine from swimming in the pool or beach
Lunatic Fringe is an ambassador for Wella professional hair care products. All hair dyes, back basin shampoo/ conditioner and many of the styling products are provided by Wella. Lunatic Fringe have chosen this brand because of their deep scientific knowledge of hair and hundred year old reputation for excellence.
Wella was created in the 1920s by Karl and Georg Stroher who began developing products to make the hair wave. Their father had been making products to waterproof wigs since 1880. Innovation was the fathers vision and a mission carried out by his sons.
In the 1930s Wella invented the first portable perming machine which they sold to salons across the US and Europe and supplied the salons with products best suited for permed hair.
The German based factory suffered terrible setbacks during World War 2 but regained their success in 1945. After this the company continued to soar. When they produced the first cream colourant that also protects hair, Koleston Perfect, business starting booming across the globe.
Throughout the 60s and 70s Wella continued to innovate hair care products for salons to sell as retail products. System Professional, Wella Balsam and ‘For Men’ were shaking the shelves of supermarkets and chemists alike; breaking down barriers of male grooming in cities worldwide.
Research and development were strong focus points in the 80s and 90s resulting in more world hits that led to mergers, acquisitions and associations with other famous brands and designers including Trussardi, Mont Blanc, Marc O’Polo, Max Mara and Gerry Weber.
With the brand restage in 2008 Wella Professionals launched a new chapter with a new brand vision and a modernized brand logo. With the restage Wella Professionals underlines its traditionally close relationship to the hairdresser, strengthening again it’s core pillars: leadership in education, creative inspiration and products and service innovation.
So see what a hundred years of innovation, research and development can do for your hair when you book in to have your hair cut, coloured, treated and styled at Lunatic Fringe.

The 70’s was a time of where people stopped becoming so high maintenance like in the 50’s and 60’s, instead the majority of the population swapped their hairspray, teasing coms and rollers for blow dryers and the awkward use of irons. The so called flowing out of bed look was one that was popular with the majority of the population. It was all about having long flowing straight hair. Other hairstyles such as the ‘Feather look’ that we have Farrah Fawcett to thank for was also a very popular trend in the 70’s. This type of hair style was very easy to achieve as all you have to do is blow the hair from underneath to create volume and then and then blow dry in an up and out motion around the face creating the feathered look.
The disco wedge cut was also a huge phenomenon in the 70’s being the alternative for the party goers. Think a short bob with hard lines and then usually frizzed for extra volume. This hairstyle may have been due to the fact that Wella brought out a new product allowing hair for maximum volume allowing hair dressers sculpting perfect afros. Why not try bring one of these funky styles into fashion today!!!!
