Wella was created in the 1920s by Karl and Georg Stroher who began developing products to make the hair wave. Their father had been making products to waterproof wigs since 1880. Innovation was the fathers vision and a mission carried out by his sons.

In the 1930s Wella invented the first portable perming machine which they sold to salons across the US and Europe and supplied the salons with products best suited for permed hair.

The German based factory suffered terrible setbacks during World War 2 but regained their success in 1945. After this the company continued to soar. When they produced the first cream colourant that also protects hair, Koleston Perfect, business starting booming across the globe.

Throughout the 60s and 70s Wella continued to innovate hair care products for salons to sell as retail products. System Professional, Wella Balsam and ‘For Men’ were shaking the shelves of supermarkets and chemists alike; breaking down barriers of male grooming in cities worldwide.

Research and development were strong focus points in the 80s and 90s resulting in more world hits that led to mergers, acquisitions  and associations with other famous brands and designers including Trussardi, Mont Blanc, Marc O’Polo, Max Mara and Gerry Weber.

With the brand restage in 2008 Wella Professionals launched a new chapter with a new brand vision and a modernized brand logo. With the restage Wella Professionals underlines its traditionally close relationship to the hairdresser, strengthening again it’s core pillars: leadership in education, creative inspiration and products and service innovation.

Dublin Hairdresser ‘Lunatic Fringe’ gets a Social Media boost

The NUIM social media project has been set up by a group of final year Business students studying social media at NUI Maynooth. We have made it our mission to improve how small businesses are using social media. Only 12% of businesses using social media platforms feel that they are optimising their efforts by using analysis programs and metric tools (surveyed by the Harvard Business Review). As the old saying goes; ‘If you don’t measure it, you can’t manage it’.

So we are working with Lunatic Fringe, one of the most popular hairdressers in Dublin, to make sure that they don’t fall into the trap of spending wasteful hours trying to connect with their clients online when they can be concentrating on doing awesome haircuts and continuing to bring the funkiest fashions to the Irish people.

With our help, Lunatic Fringe will not only be posting what you want to read, when you want to read it, but we will be rewarding you, the customer, for getting involved.
